Tech Chapter 8 Blog Post

Product #1 (PC gaming suddenly hot at CES 2014)

-        These machines will be simple Steam OS set-top boxes, while others are (more expensive) small-chassis gaming PCs that will also dual-boot into Windows. The entire Steam Machine concept and ecosystem is still unproven, but it has the potential to really disrupt PC gaming, especially when combined with Valve's inventive new PC game controller.
-        Getting hands (or eyes) on with it again, the generation-to-generation change is impressive. Turning around in your chair and looking behind you to reveal a panoramic virtual world while wearing the headset was unexpectedly mind-blowing. When will a consumer version be ready? What games will support it? What will the PC hardware requirements be? The list of questions about Oculus is just as big as its potential.

Product #2 (Lumus DK40 smartglasses are your personal HUD)

-        The Lumus DK40 is a frame that has more than a passing resemblance to Google Glass, yes, and it does project information on a surface. Yet Lumus, the company behind the yellow, orange, and slate-colored frames, isn't trying to sell the glasses at all. Instead, the Israeli-based company is trying to sell the optics.
-        While many of the other smart glasses here at the show used plastic lenses that obscured my vision, this was crystal clear. And rather than looking at a semi-blurry square image, Lumus' smart frames cast a blue image of any shape in the center of the field of vision for your right eye.

Product #3 (ZTE's quirky Projector Hotspot offers Wi-Fi, battery power, and big images in one)

-        The ZTE Projector Hotspot. Part charger, personal hot spot, and image projector, this device is one of several products (including the Grand S II and two Nubia handsets) that ZTE is showcasing at this year's conference. Though no official pricing has been announced yet, the Chinese mobile company confirmed that the Projector Hotspot will be available in the US later this year.

Globalization Blog Post #7

Globalization Blog Post
1.     What are some of the ways IT has improved health care as mentioned in the website?
-        Prevention and the control of emerging infectious diseases
-        Patient to health care provider interaction
-        Rapid dissemination of information
-        Improved responses to outbreak situations

2.     How can health officials use technology to study the impact of health interventions and disease prevention programs?
-        Digital records and images utilizing digital cameras have made it possible for doctors around the world to share information or offer advice on treatments for complicated ailments. For example, using the internet connection, doctors working in remote regions of northern Uganda during an outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus would be able to rapidly transmit their findings to experts at the world health organization in Geneva and the U.S. centers for diseases control in Atlanta.

3.     What types of countries can benefit from distance learning the most and how? Discuss specific examples of how distance learning can be used.
-        The countries that can benefit from distance learning are the United States, Brazil, and India and so on.
-        Distance learning can be used by lessons delivered through computers which can be interactive and also gives students real time feedback on their work and enables them to work at their own pace. Kids often enjoy working with computers, so when they are in the class room, computers can create excitement about learning among students.
-        Another example is that the government aid agencies, foundations, and private firms sponsor numerous distance education programs to teach skills to a wide variety of developing country professionals, government officials, engineers, scientist, and businesspeople. This can strengthen the people who are called upon to provide leadership in developing countries in a wide variety of social welfare, economic, and political fields.

Tech Chapter 5 Blog post

Tech Chapter 5 Blog post
1.     The Arab Spring has been called the bloggers revolution.  What role did social media play in this revolution?
- The Internet in particular opened a new communications territory, both in terms of accessing other peoples' ideas and in terms of individual expression. Websites quickly came to be used to generate awareness campaigns of many types, by individuals, organizations, movements, and even governments.
2.     Lindsey Stone was fired over a picture she posted on her FaceBook page.  Is it fair for 30,000 individuals, most of them probably strangers, to have the power to determine the course of an individual's life and livelihood based on one poor choice made on a social networking site?
-  It is not fair for the 30,000 strangers to have the power to determine the course of an individual’s life and livelihood based on one poor choose made on social media. Many celebrities got into trouble or even lost contracts and sponsors due to poor judgment on social media. I do not believe it is fair for Lindsey Stone to have lost her job over a photo posted on the internet, but many companies do not want their reputations tarnished by people making poor decisions. It’s estimated that almost 3 billion people are connected to the internet, that’s a lot of people that are potentially able to view your information, someone are bound to be offended.
3.     Your online reputation can make or break you.  In fact, college admissions officers and prospective employers look at your digital presence.  Do you monitor your digital presence?  Can you get rid of your digital footprint?  Research and provide tips for managing your online reputation.
-  I believe that one mistake on a social media site can hurt you and other people Also, there are still a few ways to clean up your digital presence. But many websites have their own process and steps to follow to suspend, remove, and delete user accounts.

Diversity Chapter 3 Blog Post

  1. What did you like most about the video?
-        I liked what the teacher did to the students to teach the students that there is no difference in skin color.
  1. What did you not like about the video?
-        There wasn't really anything I didn't like about the video because the teacher did a good job on teaching diversity.
  1. Were you surprised at how the kids with blue eyes treated the kids with brown eyes? Why or why not?
-        No I was not surprised because they were kids and when an adult tells a little kid what to do he or she listens
  1. What scene or scenes do you think you'll still remember a month from now?  Why those scenes?
-        The scenes that I will remember are the first clips where the teacher was teaching them diversity, which is because it is a part of history and it is what had to be done.

Blog Post #1: Diversity

1.     What does it mean to be an American?  Does the reigning Ms. America represent an American?
-         To be an American to me means that I am free. That when I grow up I can pick the job I want, what shift to work. And to have a good education. It means that I can say "The Pledge of Allegiance" and that I can vote for the President. Also if she is reining Ms. America, I am guessing she is representing America because if she didn’t want to represent America why would she want run for Ms. America.
2.      Compare your zip code with 21237.  What did you learn from visiting this website?
-         I learned that Rosedale is a little smaller than Parkville, Rosedale is less populated than Parkville, Rosedale 11.72 square miles, Parkville is 12.25 square miles, for both it shows you the education experience, marital status, house hold income, and occupations.
3.       What will the US demographics look like in 2050?  What does this mean for you?
-         It means the white population is going to decrease and every other ethnicity is going to increase
