Tech Chapter 8 Blog Post

Product #1 (PC gaming suddenly hot at CES 2014)

-        These machines will be simple Steam OS set-top boxes, while others are (more expensive) small-chassis gaming PCs that will also dual-boot into Windows. The entire Steam Machine concept and ecosystem is still unproven, but it has the potential to really disrupt PC gaming, especially when combined with Valve's inventive new PC game controller.
-        Getting hands (or eyes) on with it again, the generation-to-generation change is impressive. Turning around in your chair and looking behind you to reveal a panoramic virtual world while wearing the headset was unexpectedly mind-blowing. When will a consumer version be ready? What games will support it? What will the PC hardware requirements be? The list of questions about Oculus is just as big as its potential.

Product #2 (Lumus DK40 smartglasses are your personal HUD)

-        The Lumus DK40 is a frame that has more than a passing resemblance to Google Glass, yes, and it does project information on a surface. Yet Lumus, the company behind the yellow, orange, and slate-colored frames, isn't trying to sell the glasses at all. Instead, the Israeli-based company is trying to sell the optics.
-        While many of the other smart glasses here at the show used plastic lenses that obscured my vision, this was crystal clear. And rather than looking at a semi-blurry square image, Lumus' smart frames cast a blue image of any shape in the center of the field of vision for your right eye.

Product #3 (ZTE's quirky Projector Hotspot offers Wi-Fi, battery power, and big images in one)

-        The ZTE Projector Hotspot. Part charger, personal hot spot, and image projector, this device is one of several products (including the Grand S II and two Nubia handsets) that ZTE is showcasing at this year's conference. Though no official pricing has been announced yet, the Chinese mobile company confirmed that the Projector Hotspot will be available in the US later this year.

Globalization Blog Post
1.     What are some of the ways IT has improved health care as mentioned in the website?
-        Prevention and the control of emerging infectious diseases
-        Patient to health care provider interaction
-        Rapid dissemination of information
-        Improved responses to outbreak situations

2.     How can health officials use technology to study the impact of health interventions and disease prevention programs?
-        Digital records and images utilizing digital cameras have made it possible for doctors around the world to share information or offer advice on treatments for complicated ailments. For example, using the internet connection, doctors working in remote regions of northern Uganda during an outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus would be able to rapidly transmit their findings to experts at the world health organization in Geneva and the U.S. centers for diseases control in Atlanta.

3.     What types of countries can benefit from distance learning the most and how? Discuss specific examples of how distance learning can be used.
-        The countries that can benefit from distance learning are the United States, Brazil, and India and so on.
-        Distance learning can be used by lessons delivered through computers which can be interactive and also gives students real time feedback on their work and enables them to work at their own pace. Kids often enjoy working with computers, so when they are in the class room, computers can create excitement about learning among students.
-        Another example is that the government aid agencies, foundations, and private firms sponsor numerous distance education programs to teach skills to a wide variety of developing country professionals, government officials, engineers, scientist, and businesspeople. This can strengthen the people who are called upon to provide leadership in developing countries in a wide variety of social welfare, economic, and political fields.
